License

A complete learning and teaching manual for developing sound child welfare decisions.

Help new caseworkers work backward from safety, permanency and well-being to the responsibility in front of them: what must be achieved, what the evidence supports, what action is justified and how to check whether it worked.

What workers practice

  • Identify the decision and the conditions required for the next step.
  • Separate observations, reports and records from interpretation.
  • Test assumptions and consider information that could change a conclusion.
  • Assess safety and future risk using the agency’s framework and each child’s circumstances.
  • Compare feasible responses, recognize authority and explain the chosen action.
  • Verify implementation and revise the assessment when facts change.

Included in your download

One integrated 52-page manual in PDF and editable Word formats, with welcome and orientation, a complete worked case, six learning units, 44 numbered practice and assessment tasks, a staged final case, reusable decision and development records, facilitator instructions, ten pages of answer guidance, focused retries and a glossary. The ZIP also includes start-here instructions and license terms.

Teach it within your agency

The suggested 12-hour facilitated sequence can be paced to learner needs and followed by supervised field practice. Your agency supplies a knowledgeable trainer, current policies and assessment tools, decision authority and ordinary supervision. No additional AMIGA course, separate supervision book or outside facilitator is required to teach the supplied content.

Learners progress from explanations and worked examples to guided practice, independent attempts and changed facts. Trainers track the quality of the work and the help used, then identify the next skill to practice. This provides a practical foundation for purposeful conversations, including appropriate use of motivational interviewing.

One purchasing agency may print and reproduce the materials for its authorized internal trainers and learners, place them in an access-controlled internal learning system, and adapt the editable files for internal use while retaining attribution and identifying local changes.

The license excludes public posting of the paid package, resale, sublicensing, distribution to other agencies and external commercial training. Live facilitation, consulting, local customization and future editions are separate unless agreed in writing.

This educational resource supplements required preparation and agency supervision. It does not confer state certification, continuing education credit, MI fidelity certification or independent field authority. Its performance criteria support teaching and feedback; they are not a validated certification test.
