The Aspirational Spirit of MI: Learning from the Work Without Carrying It All
Thursday, January 14, 2027 · noon–2 p.m. Eastern / 9–11 a.m. Pacific · live on Zoom
$75 USD per person · maximum 40 participants
Some conversations stay with us after the workday ends. Join Alex Waitt for a two-hour AMIGA workshop exploring the aspirational spirit of Motivational Interviewing and functional closure: a structured way to learn from difficult professional experiences and decide what needs attention next.
Drawing on The Aspirational Spirit of MI and practitioner-development research, we will use partnership, acceptance, compassion, and empowerment to examine our own responses to demanding work. This evidence-informed workshop supports continued professional growth and recovery; it does not promise to prevent burnout or compassion fatigue. Workload and organizational conditions remain part of the conversation.
What you will practice
- Distinguish premature, inadequate, and functional closure in a work situation.
- Complete a guided reflection connecting your reaction to values and MI spirit.
- Practice reflection with a partner and rehearse a response for a future conversation.
- Leave with a reflection worksheet, practice cases, a five-workday practice log, and a plan for using the process.
Supplied cases are available. Sharing personal experiences is optional; leave out identifying client information.
Who this is for
Practitioners, supervisors, practice coaches, and MI trainers with basic familiarity with MI spirit. No prior AMIGA course or book purchase is required.
Facilitator and format
Alexander Waitt, MS, MSEd, LPC · AMIGA Co-Founder. Live Zoom workshop with 115 instructional minutes and a five-minute break. Breakout conversations are not recorded, and a recording is not included.
Certificate of completion
Complete at least 104 of the 115 instructional minutes, both practice activities or an agreed accessible equivalent, and an action-plan exit ticket to receive an AMIGA Certificate of Completion. The certificate records 1 hour 55 minutes of instruction. Professional CE credit, competency certification, and trainer authorization are not offered.
Registration and access
- Purchase a seat through Shopify first. One $75 ticket covers one learner. Use an email address at checkout so you receive your receipt and keep your Shopify order number.
- AMIGA verifies your paid seat. The team manually checks payment, then emails the next registration instructions to the email address used at checkout.
- Follow the emailed registration instructions. If you purchased your own seat, use the same email address as your Shopify order.
- Watch for your Zoom confirmation. AMIGA manually matches each attendee to a verified paid seat before approving access. After approval, Zoom emails your unique join link; please keep it private.
For agency or group purchases, or if you purchased a seat for someone else, the buyer must email the Shopify order number, each attendee’s name and email address, and which workshop each person will attend to alex@amigallc.com. AMIGA checks that roster against paid seats and sends the buyer the next registration instructions. Each learner follows those instructions using their own attendee email.
Refunds and substitutions
Full refunds are available through January 7, 2027. Substitutions are permitted; email alex@amigallc.com to update the attendee registration. If AMIGA cancels the workshop, purchasers receive a full refund.
