How do you fulfill your responsibilities when someone does not trust the process or agree with what needs to happen? This AMIGA workshop connects Ask–Offer–Ask with six conditions for trust and accountability, helping you find a useful focus for difficult professional conversations.
How this relates to MI engaging
In motivational interviewing, engaging is the ongoing work of building and sustaining a collaborative working relationship. Trust and accountability concern what people can depend on within that relationship: understandable expectations, meaningful choices, honest limits, and follow-through.
AMIGA’s six conditions offer a practical framework for examining these specifics. They support engaging and can overlap with other MI tasks; they are not an additional stage before MI or a complete definition of engaging.
Ask–Offer–Ask is an MI information-exchange practice. Conversations about work requirements, decisions, or repairing a relationship may have an immediate purpose other than exploring motivation for change.
This four-hour workshop introduces AMIGA’s application of these ideas. It is not comprehensive foundational MI training.
What you will learn and practice
Explore shared expectations, emotional stability, ownership and agency, meaning-making, boundaries, and clear next steps. Identify what needs attention, describe an observable improvement, and use Ask–Offer–Ask to respond to the person's perspective while keeping your responsibilities clear. Practice explaining professional responsibilities and honest limits, following through on commitments, and checking understanding. Agreement or silence alone does not establish trust.
- Four hours of live learning, including 220 instructional minutes and two ten-minute breaks.
- Two rehearsal blocks with structured peer feedback, supported by facilitator demonstrations and debriefs.
- A conversation planner, six-condition guide, and participant feedback tool.
- A practical plan for a difficult conversation from your own work. Use fictionalized situations and leave out identifying client details.
Who this is for
Supervisors and experienced practitioners in helping services, as well as MI trainers, agency educators, and consultants interested in learning to teach AMIGA content. Previous MI training is helpful but not required. The workshop stands on its own; further enrollment is optional.
Certificate and further development
Complete at least 198 of the 220 instructional minutes, participate in both rehearsal blocks or an agreed accessible equivalent, and submit a completed conversation planner to earn the AMIGA Adaptive Motivational Interviewing Foundations Certificate of Completion.
Completion satisfies the introductory learning requirement for AMIGA trainer development. People interested in teaching AMIGA content can request a fit review and a proposal for preparation and authorization to deliver specified material. Later training, assessment, and licensing have separate requirements and fees.
This certificate documents completion of this learning experience. It is not professional certification, approved continuing-education credit, or authorization to teach or distribute AMIGA training materials. Individual instructor assessment of every rehearsal is not included.

Registration and access
One ticket covers one learner. Purchase your seat first:
- Purchase your seat here and save the Shopify order number on your receipt. Use an email address at checkout so you receive your receipt. For an agency or group purchase, purchase one seat for each attendee.
- AMIGA manually verifies your paid seat, then emails the next registration instructions to the email address used at checkout.
- Follow the emailed instructions. If you purchased your own seat, register using the same email address as your Shopify order.
Agency, group, or someone-else-pays purchases: The purchaser must email alex@amigallc.com with the Shopify order number, each attendee's name and email address, and which workshop each person will attend. AMIGA checks that roster against paid seats and sends the purchaser the next registration instructions. Each learner follows those instructions using their own attendee email.
AMIGA manually matches each attendee to a verified paid seat before approving Zoom access. After approval, Zoom emails each learner their individual joining details. Keep both your Shopify receipt and Zoom confirmation, and keep individual join links private.
Participant resources will be provided for your own learning. Breakout practice will not be recorded. A recording is not included. Contact alex@amigallc.com for accessibility needs or registration help.
Refunds and substitutions
Full refunds are available through January 21, 2027. Substitutions are permitted; contact AMIGA to update the attendee registration. If AMIGA cancels the workshop, purchasers receive a full refund.
